Interdisciplinary and focused on strategic assets, the UPO projects on sustainability are growing in number and are in alignment with the programmes of the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The research groups are currently working on:

• large-scale use of waste materials from the edible oil industry for extraction, purification and creation of high-quality bioactive compounds with premium commercial value;
• the development of a new strategy to promote a heterogeneous plastic waste product, Plasmix;
• again in the field of circular economy, the development of a bioeconomy value chain through the creation of new processes and products, with particular focus on the salvaging and re-use of carbonic anhydride.
