Cookies banner displayed to website user on first access

When the User accesses the Site for the first time, a specific banner is displayed through which he/she can view details of the cookies installed by the site and choose which type of cookies they wish to accept, by ticking the box. This type of choice never involves the so-called "necessary cookies" i.e. cookies that allow only the technical functioning of the website, only third-party, marketing and profiling cookies. The User can modify the choice made at any time without affecting the legality of processing carried out before this modification.

What are "cookies" and why are they used?

Cookies are pieces of information (small strings of text) entered into the user's browser when the website is visited. They perform various and important functions within the network (execution of IT authentications, session monitoring, storage of information on specific configurations concerning users accessing the server, storing preferences, etc.). While browsing, the user may also receive cookies from different sites (so-called "third-party" cookies), set up directly by the operators of said websites and used for the purposes and according to the methods defined by them.

Type and list of cookies used by this website

There are different types of cookies that contain different information and perform different functions (e.g. execution of computer authentication, session monitoring, memorization of preferences for sending targeted advertising messages, etc). Each cookie, in turn, contains various data (e.g. the name of the server from which it comes, a numeric identifier, etc.). Such data may remain on your device for various periods of time - a browser session, a few hours, several days or longer periods.

Technical cookies

These are necessary to enable the safe and efficient navigation of the sites; they are session or persistent cookies, in general domain cookies, such as user preference and monitoring cookies. The use of technical cookies is done in such a way as to avoid the use of other computer techniques potentially prejudicial to the privacy of user's browsing, as they do not allow the acquisition of personal data identifying the user.

Cookie analytics [Google]

In order to collect information about the number of users and how they visit the site and to process general statistics about the service and its use, UPO's institutional site uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google. To analyze the points of greatest interest on the sites visited by the user, Google Analytics uses cookies for statistical purposes and collects information in aggregate form only, without associating the user's browsing IP address with any other data held by Google itself. Tools have been adopted to reduce the identifying power of cookies by masking significant portions of the IP. In addition, appropriate Google Analytics settings have been enabled so that Google does not cross-reference the collected data with other information it already has. A privacy policy can be found on the Google Analytics website. The use of thìs service may also result in data being stored in countries outside Europe, and in particular in the United States, whose data protection legislation does not "adequately" guarantee the rights of European data subjects.

Cookie analytics [Matomo]

In order to facilitate site navigation and the way visitors reach it, the site uses Matomo, an open source web analysis software that guarantees full compatibility with European data protection laws. To analyze the points of site greatest interest by the user, Matomo uses cookies for statistical purposes and collects information exclusively in aggregate form, without associating the user's browsing IP address with any other previously collected data. Tools have been adopted mask significant portions of the IP. The privacy policy can be consulted on the Web Analytics Italia website.

Third-party profiling cookies

These are able to monitor the browser and create a profile of the visitor's interests. This may affect what is displayed when browsing other sites. These cookies may also result in data being transferred to countries outside Europe and, in particular, to the United States.
Updated links to the cookie policies are listed below, also in order to be able to disable the relevant cookies installed and know in detail the retention times.

Method of processing

Processing is carried out with automated tools of the Data Owner. No sharing or communication of data is carried out.

Provision of data and consent

Exception of technical cookies that are strictly necessary for normal browsing, the provision of data is left up to the interested party who decides to browse the site after having read the brief information notice contained in the appropriate banner, and to use the services involving the installation of cookies.

How to disable cookies (opt-out)

Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but you can reject them. If you do not wish to receive or store cookies, you can change the security settings of your browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari Opera, etc...). Each browser has different procedures for managing settings.
Normally, it is necessary to access the "options/settings/advanced preferences" section of the browser and here access a section entitled "Privacy/Security/Data." Depending on the browser, you can block all cookies, choose to block only third-party cookies, or even have the cookies deleted when you close the browser.

Third party websites

Third-party sites that can be accessed through this website are not covered by this policy. The University declines all responsibility in relation to them. The categories of cookies used and the type of personal data processing by these third parties are regulated in accordance with the information notices provided by these third parties.
