After completing a Master’s degree, you can pursue a teaching profession if successful in a public competition for Secondary School teaching of specific subjects.

The Master’s specialisation courses offered by the university allow you to collect the academic credits necessary to participate in certain competitions indicated in the Ministry of Education table (see attachment).

Master’s degree graduates can apply to participate in the competitive exam for teachers if they:

  • satisfy the requisites for the category (qualifications; type of degree and minimum number of academic credits for specific Scientific Disciplinary Sectors)
  • have collected 24 credits in specific fields: see page 24 of Pre-competition academic credits 

 

DEPARTMENTAL DECREE No. 639 of 27 MAY 2020

Departmental Decree 639/2020 postponed the deadlines for the applications to the special teachers' competition.

DEPARTMENTAL DECREE No. 510 of 23 APRIL 2020 (published in the Official Gazette No. 34 of 28-04-2020)

Decree 510/2020 announces a regional competition, based on qualifications and exam results, to select 24,000 regular and support teachers for secondary school (lower and upper).

The decree states that individuals in possession of the following requisites at the time of the Call for Applications may participate in the competition (art.2):

    1. Having completed at least 3 years’ regular or substitute teaching service (whether consecutive or not), in the period running from scholastic years 2008/2009 to 2019/2020, estimable as such pursuant to art.11, para.14 of Law no.124 of 3 May 1999
    2. Having completed at least 1 year of teaching service in one of the situations as stated in point a), congruent with the type of competition in question,
    3. For a regular teaching position: the qualification stated in art.5, para.1 (a) of Legislative Decree no.59 of 13 April 2017, congruent with the type of competition in question and notwithstanding what is set forth in art.22, para.2 of the aforementioned decree with reference to competitions for vocational teaching roles, stated in Presidential Decree no.19 of 14 February 2016 and modified by MIUR decree no.259 of 9 May 2017 (Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research), i.e. a certified diploma or competitive eligibility congruent with the type of competition in question.

Art. 3 of the Decree regards the application to participate, in terms of deadline and presentation process.

Candidates submit their applications for the competition by electronic means, between 9am of 28 May 2020 and 11.59pm of 3 July 2020 (art.3, para.3).

Candidates may submit their applications in a single region only (under penalty of exclusion), whether for support teaching roles in lower and upper secondary school, or for one specific competition category (art.3 para.1)

DEPARTMENTAL DECREE No. 499 of 21 APRIL 2020 (published in the Official Gazette No. 34 of 28-04-2020)

Decree 499/2020 announces a regional competition, based on qualifications and exam results, to fill 25,000 teaching positions in secondary school (lower and upper), expected to remain vacant and available for the two-year scholastic period 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 (art.1, para.1)

The decree states that individuals in possession of the following requisites at the time of the Call for Applications may participate in the competition:

  1. Individuals qualified to teach in a specific category, or with an equivalent qualification from a foreign institution recognised in Italy pursuant to current regulations;
  2. The possession of both:
    1. A Master’s degree or single cycle Master’s degree, or II level diploma in Advanced art, music or choreutic studies, or an equivalent qualification, congruent with the type of competition as stated in the call for applications, or an equivalent qualification from a foreign institution recognised in Italy pursuant to current regulations;
    2. 24 university or academic credits (known in Italy as CFU and equivalent to European ECTS credits), acquired in regular curricular activity, additional or extra-curricular activity in anthropology-psychopedagogy disciplines and teaching methodologies and technologies, with the possession of at least six credits in at least three of the four following fields: education, special educational needs and inclusive teaching; psychology; anthrology; teaching methodologies and technologies.

Art. 4 of the Decree regards the application to participate, in terms of deadline and presentation process.

Candidates must submit their applications for the competition by electronic means, between 9am of 15 June 2020 and 11.59pm of 31 July 2020 (art.4, para.3).

Candidates may submit their applications in a single region only (under penalty of exclusion), whether for support teaching roles in lower and upper secondary school. Candidates may take part in more than one competition with a single application, specifying the competitions in which they intend to participate (art. 4, para.1)

MINISTERIAL DECREE no. 201 OF 20 APRIL 2020

The Decree states the regulations for standard competitions, based on qualifications and exam results, to select regular and support teachers for secondary school (lower and upper).

The Ministerial Decree states the criteria for formation of the examination board, competition conditions and exam content, and admissible qualifications.

The Decree does not constitute the standard competition call itself, which will instead be announced on a regional basis in accordance with the process laid down in art.1 et seq of said Decree.

LAW no. 159 of 20 December 2019 (OG General Series no.303 of 28-12-2019)  

Conversion into law, with modifications, of decree law no. 126 of 29 October 2019, containing measures of extraordinary necessity and urgency regarding recruitment of teaching staff, research institutes, and teacher certification.

Law 159/19 states that MIUR is authorised to announce by the end of 2019, in parallel with the standard competition based on qualifications and exam results as stated in art.17, para.2, (d) of legislative decree no.59 of 13 April 2017, an extraordinary procedure based on qualifications and exams for secondary school teachers (lower and upper) in order to award positions as defined by paragraphs 2,3, and 4 of the same article. The procedure is also directed at awarding secondary school teachers the licence to practise, subject to the terms of this article.

Participation in this procedure is reserved to individuals, also tenured, who jointly:

    1. Have completed at least 3 years’ regular or support teaching service (whether consecutive or not), in the period running from scholastic years 2008/2009 to 2018/2019
    2. Have completed at least 1 year of teaching service in a role congruent with the type of competition or role in question;
    3. Possess the qualification stated in art.5 of decree law no.59 of 13 April 2017 for the type of competition in question (24 ‘CFU’ university or academic credits, acquired in anthropology-psychopedagogy disciplines and teaching methodologies and technologies – see “24 Pre-competition Academic Credits”) notwithstanding what is stated in art.22, para.2 of the aforementioned decree. For support teaching roles, the additional requisite of relative specialisation must be certified.

 

All candidates may submit their applications in a single region only, whether for support or regular teaching competitions. Candidates may take part in both a standard and extraordinary procedure, also for the same category and type of position.

The procedure involves:

    1. A written test, to be completed online, consisting of multiple response questions on topics related to the competition category and teaching methodologies:
    2. The compilation of a list of winners on the basis of points collected in the written test and from evaluation of the CV/qualifications.
