This project investigates the role of the European Unione in the global era, focusing on some of the most important challenges of our time:

  • the “identity crisis” of the European Union and the risk of its disintegration
  • the Union’s role in international relations at the end of the Cold War
  • the twin ecological and digital transition, indicated as a priority of the European Commission and the starting point for a redefinition of democratic policymaking models
  • Flow of individuals across internal/external borders, and links to security/safety issues (both in the classic sense of public order and in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic).

These issues will be studied by a research team, also in order to set up an interdisciplinary network consisting of interested parties, and highlighting many educational and third mission activities created in partnership with the Alessandria Association for Culture and Development.

In fact, each year of the project will offer seminars/workshops for DiGSPES students (also open to the general public), an informative conference and a Summer School with two modules (one basic, one advanced) to attract individuals of different ages, education, professions and interests.

During the three-year period, there will also be a round table and academic conference. The project will lead up to the publication of research results and most significant findings from the public meetings.
