The International Music Competition “Giovan Battista Viotti” is one of the longest-running contests in the world for young musicians. Launched in 1950, it celebrated its seventieth anniversary in 2020 and boasts the greatest number of music competition editions in the world, having taken place every year without fail.

The long-term organiser is the Società del Quartetto di Vercelli, Since 2013, the Università del Piemonte Orientale has joined the Società del Quartetto in organising the event alongside two other long-standing partners: the Municipality of Vercelli and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Vercelli.

UPO's contribution was crucial for the relaunch of the event at a local, national and international level.
