Changing course within the University

You can submit a request to change degree programme within the University between 1 September and 9 October 2020. After this date, a penalty fee will be changed by the original department and you must receive approval from the Director of the department where you wish to study.

To apply for a switch to a state-regulated degree programme, a permit must be issued by the relevant department.

Transfers to other institutes

You can submit a request to move to another university between 1 September and 9 October 2020 (subject to payment of €100 fee). Applications made between 9 October and 30 April 2021 are subject to an additional penalty fee.

Before applying, check that your intended university of choice is willing to accept you.

If you are intending to enrol on a capped number degree programme, a dispensation certification must be issued by the intaking university. You can transfer only if your tuition fees/payments are all up-do-date.

Incoming transfers

Incoming transfers are organised differently according to the course type concerned:

  • Unrestricted admission
  • Capped numbers
  • State-regulated

For unrestricted courses, you should apply by 9 October 2020. After that date, your application must be approved by the Director of the Department and the transfer process must be completed by 18 December 2020. Applications submitted after 18 December but before 30 April 2021 may still be accepted, in exceptional circumstances and subject to approval by the Rector.

You may complete your enrolment only when the Student Services Office has received all documentation from your original university.

For capped number courses, transfer applications will be accepted only in the event of available spaces after the enrolment period has closed. Check the relevant Selection Calls here:

For state-regulated degree programmes, admission is subject to the issue of a permit from the destination university, which must confirm availability of places.
