UPO forms part of RUS - Rete delle Università per lo Sviluppo sostenibile (University Network for Sustainable Development). This initiative – sponsored by CRUI - Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities - fosters coordinated activity between Italian universities, which are committed to integrated sustainability goals and actively work to achieve these.

We are also part of the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR), an inter-university consortium whose members share a common interest in sustainability sciences and development, guiding their educational activity in this direction.

Furthermore, we have signed up to the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, launched by the University of Indonesia in 2010, which sets out to estimate the level of sustainability of universities around the world.
