UPO guarantees all students in the process of gender transition the opportunity to adopt a preferred name that allows them to use a provisional identity according to their selected gender. The University follows the regulations for activation and management of a preferred name identity for students in the process of gender transition , to consolidate the sense of belonging to the university community and guarantee the wellbeing of all members.

Any students interested in this option can present a request to the CUG by email, using the appropriate form to be found in the Forms section in "Other forms" or by specifying all details in the email and attaching a current valid identity document;  CUG then undertakes to contact the student and arrange an interview to complete the signing of a confidentiality agreement (link)  between the applicant and the Rector. The agreement states the University’s commitment to respecting the selected gender identity of the student and the applicant’s commitment to using the preferred name/identity only within the University in the understanding that the alias identity is only provisional and lacks any legal value outside of the University.

The University is obliged to issue, according to current legislation, certificates and statements exclusively regarding the university career and the student is obliged to self-certify data regarding the career, but students can also enrol on courses and exams using the preferred name. At the end of an exam, when the result is being recorded, the teacher will undersign the document using the registry details of the student.

Teaching and technical-administrative staff at the University are required to guarantee confidentiality regarding the alias identity.
