Free Mover

If you wish to enjoy a study trip abroad, consider the “Free Mover” scheme: an activity connected to your specific interests, independent of the institutional exchange trips already activated via Erasmus+.

You can participate if you are enrolled on a degree programme and all your fee payments are up-to-date. You must make all arrangements autonomously and receive in time an acceptance letter from the university or organisation that will host you. You can sit exams and participate in summer schools, conferences/seminars, and traineeship/internships.

The Free Mover scheme is not subject to a minimum/maximum duration and there are no deadlines for applications: you can start the procedure at any time in accordance with the calendar of the Organisation and/or courses in the foreign university where you intend to go, and with your own course requirements at UPO.

Remember that UPO limits itself to approving the project presented and recognising studies carried out abroad. Everything else is your own responsibility. Some departments award some funding and periodically publish Calls for this. Check your department’s website for more information.

If you have decided to sign up for this experience, fill in the application form that you can find at the bottom of this page. Have it approved by the chairman of your degree programme board (who will also act as guarantor for the academic credits on your return). Deliver the form to the Erasmus and International Students Office, where it will be forwarded for approval by the Rector’s delegate for international relations.

If the project is approved, you will be responsible for complying with the partner university’s application process and conditions. You may be awarded a small sum to help you with your fees, or enrolment fee tariffs established at the same rate as local students. Remember that, if you acquire Free Mover student status, you must still continue to pay the university fees here at our university.

When you return from your stay abroad, you must present certification of the activity carried out, released by the foreign university and/or organisation. In short, you will need these documents:

Before departure

  • invitation letter from the host university
  • application form (download from the bottom of this page)

After returning to Italy

  • Transcript of Records issued by the host university, stating the exams taken and participation in conferences/seminars or activity in a traineeship/internship, marks achieved and any academic credits collected
  • Letter of Confirmation from the host university (including part II, confirming departure) stating the dates/duration of the period spent abroad.
