We’re sure you’ve already heard about Erasmus, maybe from a friend who already enjoyed the experience, and now may want to sign up for this as part of your studies.

This is the simplest and most popular way to study abroad. Since 1987, when it was launched by the European Community, this scheme has allowed around ten million students to study in universities abroad as part of their degree programmes.

Erasmus is the acronym of European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students. Since 2014, it has been known as Erasmus+, and includes seven European Union programmes in the fields of education, training, youth and sport, with simplified funding regulations. There is also a formal Charter which sets out the rights and responsibilities of Erasmus students.

With Erasmus+, you can spend a study period abroad, between 3 and 12 months, when you can follow courses, take exams and prepare your thesis. You can also complete a curricular internship of between 2 and 6 months, on condition that it follows at least one curricular exam taken within the mobility programme. The scheme is financed by the European Union with mobility grants that cover the additional costs that arise from staying abroad.

Refer to the specific menu options to discover how the programme works, and don’t forget to check out the Stories section, which reveals the experiences of students who have completed Erasmus+.
